Look I just have to share this with you. Is there a children’s Karate class somewhere near you? Do you know much about Karate? Would your child like Karate do you think? Well after this evening I LOVE KARATE. It’s pretty great anyway, wonderful for self discipline, manners, respect and coordination and my son absolutely adores it. He doesn’t get to mix with that many male mentors – all the teachers at his school are women!
Well tonight as part of the class (I wouldn’t normally but I sat in for the first part) sad I know but I’m fascinated by this stuff, the teacher starts to tell them about needing to be strong for Karate and how diet is an important aspect of that. Well he asks them whether they’re all eating their 5 a day like he is and they ALL put their hands up. He tells them how important green vegetables are and that if they want to do well at Karate then they need to eat well and be healthy. My son proudly puts up his hand to say that his favourite vegetable is broccoli – well it’s his only green vegetable…. but we don’t mention anything about that…and I nod proudly as this young Karate master checks it out with me.
They’ll do anything to take their first small steps to being a black belt….long way off but it’s wonderful – I nearly interrupted the lesson to hug the teacher and ask him if he wanted to come with me into the homes of all the other kids we know to tell them the same stuff – amazing how it works wonders when it’s coming from someone other than YOU! Any way, that’s it now ….just get them into Karate and you’re onto a winner!
